About Us
The First Responders Foundation of Alabama originated in the heart and mind of Founder & CEO Chaplain Matthew W. Smith after serving for 19 years as chaplain to various law enforcement agencies in the state of Alabama.
While building relationships with and ministering to the needs of these officers and their families, Matt developed a desire to provide more support than he alone could offer. His compassion and empathy moved him to search for means to meet the needs of these First Responders during the difficulties they face in their own lives as they serve others.
Through much prayer, coordination, and hard work, he obtained IRS approval on December 17, 2019 as a non-profit 501(C)(3) Public Charity. Matt's vision has been brought to fruition and is providing tremendously needed services for First Responders.
