How to Volunteer as a Chaplain
We are in great need of volunteer Chaplains throughout our state. If you meet the following qualifications and are willing to meet these responsibilities you may apply to serve.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A chaplain must be a follower of Jesus Christ.
A chaplain must be licensed or an ordained, ecclesiastically certified person in good standing and endorsed for First Responder Chaplaincy by a recognized religious body, with a minimum of three years experience in ministry.
A chaplain must have never been convicted of a criminal offense or offenses involving immorality
A chaplain must be tactful, considerate, and professional in approaching all people regardless of race, sex, creed, or religion.
A chaplain must participate in training programs that enhance one's efficiency in meeting and dealing with people in crisis and should be familiar with community medical, psychiatric, and other helpful resources.
A chaplain must understand that counseling is an "off the record" and "privileged" communication which will not be reported to anyone’s Superior or have any bearing on his or her job status. This element of confidentiality is very important to the over-all effectiveness of the chaplain and his/her rapport with the men and women they serve.
Agree to and pass a criminal background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personally counsel First Responders or help secure appropriate counsel through the Foundation’s partnering organizations.
Distribute Bibles and Devotional books to various agencies within their area.
Visit sick or injured First Responders in homes & hospitals.
Assist with making death notifications when called upon.
Attend funerals of First Responders or immediate family members.
Serve as liaison with local churches.
